stressedanddepressed.jpgAre you a business owner constantly looking for new opportunities and new ways to manage the growth and success of your company? Are you a busy entrepreneur juggling day-to-day organizational management tasks along with executive responsibilities? If so, you are likely suffering from business overload.

Delegating general operations to qualified team members while you focus on development and strategy is an effective way to improve productivity and increase revenue. What is preventing you from successful delegation? Here are a few common factors:

  • You are a perfectionist • Reluctance to confidently trust colleagues
  • You enjoy managing daily operations
  • Have difficulty identifying needs

Here are three simple tips:

  1. Make a list of big projects and major goals
  2. Prioritize steps for achieving desired results i.e. phone calls, research, database management, public relations.
  3. Identify which tasks can be completed by another qualified individual.

Make a list not only of the big projects, break down the small details, for example, phone calls that need to be made, research to be done, database that needs to be updated, etc. Indicate by check marks, which one of those tasks can be done by someone else, what you would like to get rid of and the things you really must do yourself.

When delegating to staff or contracting outside assistance it is important to select a person or firm with appropriate skill sets. Giving assignments to those who are unqualified can leave you with disastrous result and create added stress. Communication is key; many business managers fall short here, goals, deadlines and specific outcomes should be discussed with team members. Non-work hours should be placed on your priority list. Writing a task list will help you exercise thinking through your strengths, interests, passions and skills as well as others around you. This makes delegation easy and business more productive.

Before you begin to filling the free time chart with other tasks, take some time to look inside and ask yourself the important question. What is the difference between things you enjoy and the things you do not in your daily schedule and what changes can you make to maximize your time?
